For over 20 years, David R has been writing and performing his self-described "folk-ternative" brand of contemporary folk-rock songs. Blessed with a remarkably strong tenor voice, his live performances are noteworthy not only for the quality of his material, but also for the passion and majesty that he brings to the stage. David's intelligently written and thought provoking songs have appealed to a wide variety of audiences. Whether it be biting political sarcasm and social commentary, lighthearted looks at modern romance, or tales of aching loneliness, his lyrics provide a straightforward perspective on the human condition.
David’s musical influences are quite diverse, including 60’s folk icons, stadium rock bands of the 70’s, alternative grunge from the 90’s, and timeless “Red Dirt” roots artists in his home state of Oklahoma. His songs reflect this eclectic mix of influences, with a common thread of rock and roll sensibility in the mold of Neil Young, Tom Petty, and Shawn Mullins.
David’s first public performances were at age 16 as a street performer in Melbourne, Australia. Upon returning to Ohio following 3 years in Australia, David set out across the country with his guitar and songs. A simple twist of fate deposited him in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where David got married, had kids, and took a lengthy hiatus from performing while raising his family.
Since resuming his passion in 1998, David has emerged as a strong regional talent. The life experience he has gained has only served to strengthen his songwriting abilities.
Profoundly affecting the human race on a regular basis at venues and festivals in Oklahoma and the surrounding region, David's audience continues to multiply. He has appeared with or in support of national and regional talents such as Kevin Welch, Patty Larkin, Barton & Sweeney, Don Conoscenti, and Tom Skinner.
